Being a graduate at Tesco

Find out more

We’re passionate about serving shoppers a little better every day and our colleagues are at the heart of that.

We like to help our graduates grow. That's why we give them responsibility from day one. We also lay on masterclasses and unique leadership development. Plus there's plenty more support on hand, like a mentor, a 'buddy' who's been in your shoes, and the flexibility to develop in a way that works for you.

A business of our scale provides a whole host of opportunities – we run successful store, distribution and office programmes, and support our graduates to develop the career path that’s right for them. No two days are the same here at Tesco and this, coupled with our fast-paced and vibrant culture, is something we are really proud of.

We firmly believe that the most rewarding way for graduates to learn is through the responsibility of real-life business experience, which they get from day one. Our graduates can apply their knowledge, by being innovative, working collaboratively across the business, and being responsive to the business’ needs.

The benefits

At Tesco, we offer a competitive salary starting at £26,000 depending on the programme. Our graduates are also eligible for our bonus payment, depending on the performance of the business.

You’ll get 22 days holiday pro rata plus a personal day (which you can use for things like Christmas shopping or your birthday!). You’ll also receive exclusive benefits like discounted cinema tickets and half price entrance to theme parks, not to mention 10% off at Tesco once you’ve been here for six months.

Even though retirement may be many years away, we offer a Tesco Retirement Savings Plan. Colleagues can decide how much they save, and we will match contributions up to a maximum of 7.5%.

We understand that environment means a lot when it comes to the workplace. We champion a flexible approach, with hot desking, ample meeting rooms, and informal meeting spaces. The Welwyn campus also offers cool outdoor spaces, as well as ping pong tables and table football. In the office, you’ll get a laptop, supporting you to take advantage of our flexible working policy (so you can work remotely!).

All of our graduates are invited to development events and training days throughout their programmes to support them with their growth. From presentation skills, to helping you to better understand yourself, these events are great opportunities to network with peers and inspirational leaders from across our business and beyond.

The great thing about our unique Graduate Programmes is the access to a mentor throughout your time here. They’re usually experienced in their field, and have been in your shoes once so can give you advice and support.
