We strive to give our customers what they want, when they want it. Our Food team, in Product, is at the forefront of our customer offer working with over 8,000 suppliers and growers. This fast-paced and exciting environment gives our interns a great opportunity to develop themselves and really drive our strategy and the growth of our business. We use insight and feedback to source and buy great quality products, giving our customers the best offer, range and prices available.
Our Food team is diverse and made up of lots of different categories including our Produce team which is transforming our approach to food waste, our Health & Wellness team which is supporting families to stay healthy and our Packing team which is looking at the sustainability of the products we source. You may get the opportunity to work in one of these areas as well as our Household and Pet team or our Commodities team.
Our paid 10-week internship programme gives you breadth of experience into different areas of the Food team. No two days are the same, one day you could be strategic planning and visiting supplier factories, another analysing data to identify and prioritise opportunities to improve for the customer while negotiating costs. There will be the opportunity to experience different store formats. The roles do vary depending on the category and the balance is between own label and branded suppliers.
Within the Product team, you will need to be driven, ambitious and willing to learn. It’s not essential that you have any previous experience but it definitely helps if you have a strong commercial mind, are comfortable with data and curious of market trends and changes.
We kick off our internship programmes with an induction where you will learn more about our business and your programme plus it’s a great opportunity for you to meet your fellow interns. You will then be introduced to your team where you will get to know more about the area you will be working in.
You will spend two days out of your ten weeks with us working in one of our stores which you will be able to select from our store list. You will find out more about this at your induction. The time you will spend in store will help you to learn how our stores operate, how they link to your role or project and help you to understand our customers.
You will gain experience from working in a role or completing a project within your team which will help to give you a breadth of knowledge about your area and our business. You will find out more about this during your induction.
We will support your learning with masterclasses, and in addition you will have the opportunity to learn from others and on the job.
