Being an apprentice

At Tesco, we welcome diversity, individuality and uniqueness. We always want our colleagues to feel they can be themselves at work and we’re committed to helping them be at their best. We’re building an inclusive workplace, a place to actively celebrate the cultures, personalities and preferences of our colleagues who share the same purpose, to serve our customers, communities and planet a little better every day, and you’ll have a vital part to play.

You’ll be encouraged to try new things, push yourself and learn from mistakes while you get hands-on experience. You’ll also have paid, time out to study, so you can complete your apprenticeship. And, like all Tesco colleagues, you’ll have access to a wide variety of workshops and resources, to help you develop skills like resilience and adaptable thinking, as well as how to look after your wellbeing. And don’t worry, your colleagues will be there to support you throughout your apprenticeship.

What it’s like working here

The office is a relaxed and friendly environment, with a casual dress code. We have flexible work spaces and places to enjoy down-time with colleagues. Office colleagues get a laptop, so they can work anywhere on campus and from home. Working in store is all about interacting with customers and leading a team. A role in retail will involve some early starts, late finishes, night shifts and working weekends and bank holidays. Serving millions of shoppers per week is hard work, but very rewarding!

Amy, our Finance Apprentice -
“I chose to do an apprenticeship rather than going to university as it gave me the opportunity to study towards a professional qualification whilst also getting on-the-job experience”
