Being an intern at Tesco

Find out more

At Tesco we’re passionate about serving shoppers a little better every day and colleagues are at the heart of that. In your second year at university? We offer a paid ten-week programme, where from day one you’re given real responsibility and support to grow throughout your time here with us.

Our business is full of varied opportunities in offices and stores. No two days are the same at Tesco and this, coupled with our collaborative culture, is something we’re really proud of. We believe the most rewarding way to develop is through real-life business experience.

At Tesco you can apply your knowledge and be entrepreneurial, while learning from colleagues across the business at the same time. We work hard to inspire and help colleagues look after their whole wellbeing so they can be great at work and beyond. Our Welwyn Garden City campus offers cafes and restaurants, a subsidised gym and outdoor jungle gym, plus plenty of green space for walking meetings.

The benefits

At Tesco we offer our interns a competitive salary of £18,000 pro rata depending on programme. You’ll get four days' holiday pro rata plus bank holiday.

We understand that the working environment is incredibly important. We champion a flexible approach, with hot desking, ample meeting rooms, and quirky informal meeting spaces. The Welwyn campus also offers cool outdoor spaces, as well as ping pong tables and table football. In the office, you’ll get a laptop, supporting you to take advantage of our flexible working policy (so you can work remotely!).

At Tesco, our interns are valued for their potential, so there’s no coffee making or photocopying here. You’ll be given responsibilities, and a project to work on over your ten weeks here. There’s also a great intern community, with charity challenges, hackathons and payday drinks just a few of the perks!

All of our interns are invited to development events and training days throughout their programmes to support them with their growth. From presentation skills, to helping you to better understand yourself, these events are great opportunities to network with peers and inspirational leaders from across our business and beyond.

For the duration of your programme, you’ll have access to a mentor. They’re usually experienced in their field, and have been in your shoes once so can give you lots of advice and support.
