Stores Graduate Programme

If you’re ready to work in a fast-paced industry, dealing with different people every day, and want to become part of our senior management team in our stores, then this is the programme for you. You could work in stores of all sizes, get the opportunity to be part of the management team and experience managing people and operations. From day one, you’ll experience all that Tesco has to offer from a stores point of view and you’ll be helping to serve our customers a little better everyday.

Experience different departments

After your induction, you’ll start shadowing a Department Manager. Here you’ll become the customer’s best friend and learn even more about our store standards, delivering on targets, managing a team of colleagues, and above all, delivering great service to our customers. After some time you’ll become a Department Manager for the next few months. Your support network will be at hand to help you all along the way.

Building your knowledge

After this time you’ll shadow other department Managers, like Front End. Front End covers check-outs and self-scan, the customer service desk, and cash office. It’s often the largest team within the store, anything up to thirty people, so it’s seriously pacey. After that you’ll start managing this department yourself so be sure to keep smiling! This may sound daunting but don’t worry, you’ll be supported by other managers in the store and we bet you’ll be great at it.

Building your management experience

As this programme is designed to give you the training and on-the-job experience to become part of the senior team, we want you to see every area within a store. You’ll spend time with and shadow a People Manager (HR), a Deputy Store Manager and many more roles. You'll really see how they support the Store Manager. Finally, you’ll shadow a Store Manager. This is where you’ll learn how to run a store and understand more about the exciting challenges and opportunities a Store Manager faces daily.

Be a senior manager before the end of the programme

You’ll finish the programme with a placement as a member of the senior team within a store. The placement role will depend on the progress you’ve made up to this point and is an opportunity for you to put your training and experience into practice. You could be a Deputy Manager in one of our express stores, a People Manager in a larger store, or even managing a stores Grocery Home Shopping team. We know that the experience over the programme will stand to our graduates in this placement!
