Working in one of our commercial teams whether it be in food, general merchandise or procurement gives our graduates the opportunity to experience the scope and scale of our business that is full of varied opportunities. We give our graduates the tools to shape their own future with a career path that meets their own personal goals and aspirations. This fast-paced and exciting environment gives our graduates a great opportunity to develop their commercial skills and really drive our strategy and the growth of our business.
No two days are the same, one day you could be out visiting suppliers, then the next analysing data and negotiating costs for the business. You will also spend lots of your time building relationships with your internal and external stakeholders – even entering commercial negotiations with suppliers. Whatever part of commercial you are placed in for your graduate programme, whether it’s in food, general merchandise or procurement, it will allow you to develop all the skills you need.
Within any of the Commercial teams you will need to be driven, ambitious and willing to learn. It’s not essential that you have any previous experience but we’re looking for graduates with great communication and influencing skills when collaborating with their stakeholders. Having a strong commercial mind is really important as well as being comfortable with analysing data. Being curious around market trends will also be really valuable in this role.
We kick off our graduate programmes with an induction where you will learn more about our business and your programme plus it’s a great opportunity for you to meet your cohort. You will then be introduced to your team where you will get to know more about the area you will be working in.
Within the first six months you will spend two weeks working in one of our stores which you will be able to select from our store list. You will find out more about this at your induction. The time you will spend in store will help you to learn how our stores operate, how they link to your role and help you to understand our customers.
You will experience a range of rotational placements which will help to give you a breadth of knowledge about your area and our business. You will find out more about your placements during your induction.
We encourage self-led development and we support this with a range of e-learning and face to face learning sessions. You will be able to use your own initiative to identify your own learning needs and choose the right training for you. You will also have the opportunity to learn from others to help you grow your skills.
