Our Finance team offers a huge variety of roles and specialism across our business. You’ll have the opportunity to work in a number of teams while gaining a broad knowledge of our business. One day you could be making sure that our financial reporting is accurate, and another partnering with colleagues to deliver Tesco’s ambitions. It’s an exciting opportunity and more than just numbers. You would support our customers’ needs and work with trusted partners to help serve our customers a little better every day.
Alongside your role in the office, you’ll be studying with tutors from your apprenticeship learning provider. Throughout your two-year programme, you’ll be supported by your line manager as you work towards a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Professional Accounting, as part of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) studies.
Whether you’re building necessary technical skills, or gaining essential communication, analysis and insight capabilities, this programme will ensure the best possible start to your finance career and your journey to become a qualified accountant.
A successful apprenticeship with us could give you the opportunity to join our Finance graduate programme and complete the CIMA Professional Qualification.

Working at our Welwyn Garden City campus
Our leafy, green campus is 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Welwyn Garden City with its many shops, restaurants, pubs and sports facilities. Close to the A1, and with frequent trains running to Finsbury Park in just 20 minutes (free shuttle buses take you between the station and office), the campus is well connected to the surrounding area.
On campus, you'll find subsidised restaurants and coffee shops, as well as a Tesco Express to pick up your lunch or last-minute essentials. We also have our Heart Building, a place where colleagues can connect and come together, to unlock innovation and collaboration and a place where they can network and socialise. Plus we have an on-site Nuffield Health gym, which has state-of-the-art equipment, studios for classes, plus treatment rooms (membership costs £23.50 per month).
Your experience with us
Induction
We’ll kick off with you spending some time learning more about our business and your programme. It’s a great opportunity for you to meet other apprentices and make some new connections. We’ll then introduce you to your team, so you can get to know more about your role and the area you’ll be working in.
Store experience
You'll start off by spending 12 weeks in stores, this is a great opportunity to really understand and get involved in what our colleagues do everyday to serve our customers and communities.
Programme structure
You’ll gain a breadth of finance experience and skills as you complete two placements in different parts of our department. Throughout the 18 months, you’ll also be studying for a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Professional Accounting.
Introducing Kaplan
Kaplan have a wealth of experience delivering apprenticeship programmes and are highly rated by apprentices. They pride themselves on offering flexible learning options. The course will give you a firm grounding in areas such as Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Business Economics and the fundamentals of Law, Ethics and Governance.
